Automatic Generation Control (AGC) - Support Modules in PowerApps
In the published literature the following functions of the AGC are well defined
- Frequency Control at each control area to scheduled nominal value
- Tie line flow control between each control area to scheduled value
- Economic Dispatch
The frequency is controlled by the primary droop characteristics and a secondary or supplementary load reference point
determined by economic dispatch and optimal power flow that considers scheduled
tie line flows. PowerApps has module functions to evaluate these setting
calculations either in real time mode or in off-line study mode. The frequency
control may be studied either by using full fledged transient stability module
using detailed load characterstics or by equivalent control area models
interconnected by tie lines.
